According to these statistics Customs in Free China registered favourable international balance $33,645,000, while the figures for the dis- occupied areas, including the tricts of Shanghai and Kowloon, show an unfavourable foreign balance of $405,115,000.

The adverse balance of tional payments in the Customs un- der Japanese occupation amounted to $269,173,000, while that in Shanghai and Kowloon, "which suffered more or less from Japanese interference," are estimated at $155,942,000.
