AITKENHEAD SHIELD CLASSIC AT KOWLOON C.C. TO-DAY Epic Struggle Between C.G. Silva And Bradbury?

Some Fine Tussles Are Anticipated

(By "SKIP")

THE twelfth annual match between Hong Kong and Kow- loon for the Aitkenhead Shield takes place at Kowloon Cricket Club this afternoon.

The Shield was presented in 1927 by Mr. R. C. Aitken- head of Shanghai in commemoration of that port having for the first time in the history of the series, won an Inter- port match away from home; the feat has since been per- formed on seven occasions.

The Shield, which is at present in possession of Hong Kong, has been won by the Island on four occasions, whilst Kowloon has been victorious seven times.

To-day's. match is to be honoured by the presence of HE The Gov- ernor, Patron of the HKL.B.A., whose interest in the game is well-

known.

Meyer's rink appears to be better balanced than does Grimmitt's, al- though the latter is the most brilliant player of the eight. I think the main- lander will get home by six shots or so.

If Arthur Jillott touches the form he displayed in his last League match, the Kowloon four skipped by F. X. Soares should lose, but I do not think that will be the case and the Recreio rink being generally

The Captains, A. W. Grimmitt of Civil Service Cricket Club and T. E. Robson of Kowloon Bowling Greenwin. Club have, with the assistance of their sub-committees, selected the teams, which have already appeared in the Press,

It should be noted that the order in which they appear is that in which they are to play.

CLOSE STRUGGLE ANTICIPATED

The first rink for instance will be Macfarlane's four against J. Chalmer's Taikoo rink and as close a struggle as one could wish for should be seen. In making a forecast I prefer to leave that one as a tie. Much depends on "Busty" Bower as second man for the Kowloon rink.

Teddy Fincher's four should have an advantage as they are on their own green but I think they will have their work cut out to win by even half a dozen.

steadier may

The next one, Brookshank versus Chittenden, looks like a win for the Island although here again half dozen shots should be the margin,

a

The Kowloon Dock rink consisting of A.M. Calman, W. Mackie, F. Cul- len and J. Kempton may account for Jack Hollidge's composite rink,, es- pecially as they have all being play- ing until quite recently, a remark which does not apply with any force. to the Islanders,..

As the second men may provide the clue on the next rink in which Bob, Duncan is opposed to Dick Besa, feel that the Kowloon four should win by a more than useful margin, especially as Hall is playing third man to the Mainland player,

It's the mellowness of BOOTH'S Dry Gin that makes it so much to be desired in cocktails. Such mellowness mes only from treble distillation and maturing” in sherry casks and BOOTH'S DRY is 'the only GIN which receives such care in ite make ing. It is mot to be wondered at that the_les_prise Cocktail in the Inter mational Cocktail Competition was made with Booth's Dry.

UNIVERSITY TO MEET RECREIO

(By "ADREM”)

"HERE is a good cricket programme down for this after- noon not the least interesting of which is the match at Pokfulum where University will entertain Club de Recreio, the senior champions.

It will be recalled 'that University,

TEAMS

at the annual general meeting of Hong N. da Suva Jr., W. A. Reed, H. L. Ozorto, Kong Cricket League, applied for pro-A. P. Pereira, E. M. La Soares, J. M. Go- motion to First Division but were re- fused.

It is a nice gesture on the part of Recreio to give them a fixture. IL was suggested at the meeting by the President of the League that senior clubs might do this but serious doubts were entertained that these clubs would be able to fit in fixtures with a junior side.

University should be able to get Recreio out fairly cheaply, having re- gard to the fact that they are playing on their own ** ground, but I doubt their capability of scoring many runs

Ozorio against Messrs. .

and E. L.. Gosano.

Other two senior games are be- tween Clyll Service and I. R. C. and C. C. C. and K. C. C. and they should prove interesting and
