HITLER TO OFFER PEACE TO BRITAIN AND FRANCE WITH AN ULTIMATUM?

Shanghai, To-day. RUMOURS OF AN ATTEMPT by Herr Hitler to con- clude a separate peace with Britain and France, in the form of a peace offer-cum-ultimatum are gaining currency in Europe.

The latest report to this effect comes from Tallinn, Esthonia, where it is stated that by virtue of the German Soviet agreement, the creation of a So- viet (not a German) protectorate is contemplat- ed in what is left of Poland after hostilities. When this stage has been reached, the report goes on, Hitler proposes to present peace terms to France and Britain which would be drafted in- side an ultimatum.

A sensational report to the effect that Dr. Goebbels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda, has been "purged" or is in disgrace, comes from Amster- |dam, following closely on the

arrest of Julius Streicher.

Amsterdam says that circumstantial reports began to come in yesterday, indicating that Dr, Goebbels has been sacrified to the new German-Soviet friendship.

The suggestion is that for that
