The Board of Trade index of Industrial activity in the United Kingdom In the second quarter of the year, shows an Increase of 1.8 per cant. over the March quarter and of 9.6 per cent. over the June quarter of 1938.

The June-quarter Index of 133.4 per cent, of the quarterly average of 1980 was substantially the same as for the June quarter of 1937 which has been exceeded only by the December quarter of that year when the index.stood at 136.4.-British Wireless.

In compliance with repeated public petitions, the Cheklang Chinese military authorities have now given permission for the re- opening of the Ngaoklang near Wenchow to foreign shipping services, says a report to the "Shun Pao." Prior to the out- break of the current hostilities, the Ouklang and Ngaoklan were open to Chinese Inland and coastal shipping services only. The Ouklang In Wenchow still is being blockaded by the Chinese military authorities, the report states.
