CENSORSHIP M.P. KILLED IN CRASH OF

OF CHINESE PRESS

Disclosure that the local Chinese

newspapers have been prohibited by censorship from making any reference to the decision of the British Government expressing their readiness to hand over the four Chinese prisoners in Tientsin, has aroused sharp comment in Chungking.

Whether or not the censorship was justified on any reasonable ground,

INCREASE IN VIENNA

BIRTH RATE

Vienna, To-day.

An extraordinary increase in births in Vienna is shown by the official sta- tistics published yesterday.....

The total number of children born alive in the whole of 1937 was 10,082; in the first six months of 1939 alone, 12,000 were born.

As the figure rises each quarter of a year, it is expected that the 1988 figure will triple that of 1937.

At one time, Vienna had the lowest birth-rate of the cities of the world, with 5.5 births per 1,000 inhabitants. The present figure is 14.3 per mille. -Trans-Occan.
