A Chinese military spokes- man stated in a press interview yesterday that the Japanese "mopping up" campaign in south Shantung had collapsed completely in the face of the Chinese resistance.

The Douglas s.s. Haiching which arrived in Hong Kong this morning from Foochow brought only two passengers from that area, Mrs. Pratt and her son, Michael."

Mrs. Pratt, who actually came from Hinghwa, some 30. mile south of Foochow, in- formed the "China Mail" that the other foreigners at Hing- hwa, seven in all, were staying. They had neither seen heard anything of the Japanese. The s.s. Seistan which also arrived from the north this morning, brought three Euro- pean women passengers from Foochow.
