Five Sentenced In Pokfulam Burglary

Yeung Kim, 26, Lam Chuen, 32, and Li Ping, 28, who were charged with burglary were sentenced to six months' hard labour, each.
Chan Pul, 21, and a woman Chan Ngan-ho, 22, pleaded not guilty to receiving.
Mr. Gee, giving evidence, said he was awakened up at about 6.30 a.m. on April 27, by his boy. He went down to the study, where he saw two holes were drilled through the door from the garden. A drawer was open, and the contents strewn over the floor. The living and din-

Chinese detective No. C608, said he went to No. 871, Canton Road, the house where the woman lived. There he found an electric torch under a pillow in her bed. On her information, he arrested all defen- dants. Second defendant, Lam, was her husband.

Chan Pui was arrested on the information . of first defendant. Two fountain, pens were found in his pocket in Aberdeen Street. The other property was recovered in Wanchai.
Li Ping told the Court that he sold the cameras and fountain pens to Chan Pui- for $45. ...
Chan Pui was sentenced to six months' hard labour, and recom- mended for banishment, while the woman, Chan Ngan-ho, was sen- tenced to three months.

A farewell dinner was given to Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Cable, on Satur- day, presided over by Mr. Lee Ek Leong. Mr. Cable is retiring after 20 years as the Government Apothe- cary. Mr. Cable suitably replied to a toast to his health and happiness
in his retirement.

B.F.R.D.C. GRANT TO SAMSHUI
The Board of Administrators of the B.F.R.D.C. recently considered an appeal from Sam Shui for further assistance, as although the Hong Kong Emergency Refugee Council had given NC$10,000, and the Chinese National Relief Commis- sion NC$10,000, distress was great, and a further request had been · made for NC$10,000 for food, cloth-
ling and medicine:
This appeal was considered by the China Committee of the E.R.C. on March 27th, and on the recom- mendation of the "E.R.C. a grant from this (Fund of HK$5,500 was sanctioned, and a cheque for this amount was, on the 8th May, 1939,. sent to the E.R.C. for this purpose..
