OBJECTION RAISED TO SINO-BURMESE RAILWAY LINK: COMMONS QUERY

Sir Arnold Wilson (Conservative) asked questions in the House of Commons yesterday whether the Chinese Government were building a rail- way to the Sino-Burmese frontier.

Would the Under-Secretary for Burma give an as- surance that no railway construction in Burma was contemplated to connect with this railway and that no such project would be entertained without the fullest previous public enquiry and the assent of the Burmese Parliament. Lt. Col. Muirhead, Under-Secré- tary for Burma, said he had seen reports that the Chinese Govern- ment had already begun prelimin- ary work for a railway from Kun- ming towards the Burma frontier.
