CURFEW IMPOSED BY JAPANESE IN CANTON
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)
Canton, To-day.
A curfew is being enforced in Canton and all resi- dents are required to be off the streets by 5 p.m. unless equipped with a special pass issued by Japanese military. The Chinese population in Canton is stated to be dwindling. Many have left for neighbouring villages, for Chinese leaflets have been distri- buted throughout the town warning the resi- dents that the city will soon be re-occupied by the Chinese.
An unconfirmed message states that the Japanese have re-entered Tsengshing, but Chinese reports
claim that the Chinese vanguard is advancing along the Canton-Tseng- shing Highway.
Other reports speak of fighting near Taungfa-Hsien.
