LONDON, FEBRUARY 17: MRS. RUTH HARKNESS, FIRST PERSON TO CATCH A PANDA ALIVE, WANTS TO

VISIT LHASSA, THE "FORBIDDEN" HOLY CITY OF TIBET,

"Why do I want to go there," she said to a News Chronicle repre- sentative yesterday. "Well, I think Tibet is probably the most fas- cinating country left in the world and I am very fond of the Mongol and Chinese people.

DON'T WANT FOREIGNERS -- "It is a very serious matter, this getting permission. They have never been keen on admitting for- eigners.

"So far as I know only, two white women have ever visited Lhassa and one of them was dis- guised as a Tibetan woman.”

Mrs, Harkness. found her panda in a part of the country China-Tibet border.

M. MASARYK

It was officially announced in Prague that the Czech Foreign Office was investigating a statement- made to the "New York Times", by the former Czechoslovak Minister to London, M. Jan Masark,

- It is stated that the "appropriate steps will be taken.”.

In the interview M. Masaryk was quoted as saying that he would rather live as a simple citizen in the provinces in "a decent Germany" than as "King of a Fascist Czecho alovakia.”

“I resigned," said M. Masaryk, “on the day that Czechoslovakia was sold down the river and I have not been back home since. I hear my country has a wild government. which is bohaving badly but I can forgive them a good deal... You cannot expect people to react fav. ourably to something lousy."*
