Hockey Trial
Bond, Gonsalves & Hook Play Themselves Into Colony XI
FAILURE OF FORWARDS FEATURED
(By "STICKS")
The second and final Interport hockey trial which was held on the Club ground yesterday morning, proved very disappointing as there was something very essential lacking in the play and that something was "spirit." Everybody appeared to be stale and dis- interested in the play with one or two exceptions, and the trial taught us nothing that we did not know before.
V. C. Bond and J. Gonsalves made certain of their positions in the Colony's full-back division, while Lt. Hook played his way into the Colony half-back line with a very fine exhibition, at centre-half.
Four goalkeepers were on view yesterday and with the exception
of Benwell, who brought off two excellent saves, none were really tested. Osman, of whom much has been said, made one kicking clearance and that was all that we saw of him. King was erra- tic and responsible for a goal, while Ribeiro rarely saw the ball.
Bond was easily the pick of the four full-backs on display, his fine clear- interceptions, reverse-stick
ances and excellent positional play being responsible for continually breaking up opposition attacks. He Gon- was well supported by J. salves, in the second half, when they played for Possibles.
HOOK'S GOOD GAME With the exception of Hook, who above stood head and shoulders the other halves on display, there was little to enthuse about in the work of the intermediate lines.
Hassan was the pick of the right- halves, but did not come anywhere near his previous form, while Malik was easily the pick of the left-halves, his positional play, feeding and spoiling being sound. Whitley showed
the up well in first-half, but fell away greatly in the second when he was repeatedly beaten by Pritam Nath.

Kraus was much too slow at centre-forward, while Fonseca's over-eagerness more often than not found him in an offside position. I am afraid that Fonseca's chances of making the team are very remote. In the second half Parker was seen to advantage at left-half, although he irritated by hanging onto the ball a trifle longer than necessary. His spoiling, however, was great.
