ROME COMMUNIQUE

POSTPONED

PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO

Not Now Expected Till

Halifax Departure VATICAN

Rome, To-day.

An official joint communique on the Rome talks is not now expected until this morning (Satur- day).

There is no question of a hitch, but a minor detail in the phrasing of one passage will be con- sidered.

Reports that Mr. Chamberlain and Mussolini met

again yesterday are incorrect.

Mussolini passed the whole day at Rome's winter sports mountain at Terminillo, but the two states- men were to have had a further conversation after last night's din- ner at the British Embassy, at which Mussolini and Count Ciano, the Italian Foreign, Minister, were present.

The paper says that the Pope addressed greetings to the British Ministers and expressed pleasure at their visit.

His Holiness was particularly in-. terested in having news of the Bri- tish Royal Family, and expressed good wishes for their prosperity and for that of the great British Em- pire in which live so many Catho- lics.

It is pointed out that the Presi dent's message, while stressing that U.S. should keep out of Euro- pean conflicts, failed to contain a similar statement regarding the Far East.
