INDIA BRINGS END TO OTTAWA AGREEMENT

London, To-day.

Formal notice has been received from the Government of India of the termination with effect from March 31, 1939, of the agreement between the Government in the United Kingdom and the Govern- ment of India concluded at Ottawa on August 20, 1932.

Notice of termination was given on behalf of the Government of India on May 13, 1936 as result of a resolution passed by the Indian Legislative Assembly.

The Government of India at the same time intimated its willingness to enter upon conversations with a view to conclusion of a new agree- ment. Negotiations were subse- quently initiated and are still in progress..

BREAKDOWN NOT IMPLIED It was agreed between the two Governments that the Ottawa Agreement should continue in force subject to temination at three months' notice by either party unless it was replaced by a new agreement.
