HEAVY DROP IN BUSINESS ON SHAMEEN

An exceptionally trying year with profits lower than since 1926 was reported by Mr. T. E. Pearce, chairman, at the annual ordinary meeting of the Hong Kong' and Canton Ice Manufacturing Com- pany, Ltd., held this morning at the offices of Messrs. The Dairy Farm, Ice and Cold Storage Co., Ltd.

Mr. Pearce said:-

As you will have seen from the Ac- counts the profit on Working Account for the year under review amounts to only $690.02-the lowest since 1926. Feb. 11

When addressing you last year I men- Feb. 25tioned that there had been a falling off in Ice Sales as a result of the "politi- Mar. 12

cal situation." You are aware this un- fortunate. state of affairs has contin- ned, with the consequence our busi- ness has suffered severely-Ice Sales have dropped from 2533 tons to 566 tons and turnover, inclusive of cold storage revenue, from $51,951.59 to $17,663.96.

You will be pleased to know that your buildings and plant are intact and in good condition-despite numer- ous alterations to meet interrupted power supply, the latter functions ef- ficiently. Your Engineer and his staff have had a trying time and we are in- debted to them for their good work and loyalty under difficult conditions.

In view of the turn of events

and bearing in mind the essentiality of the Company to Shameen residents your Directors approved the purchase of a 20 H.P. Oil Engine for the purpose of generating an independent power sup-. ply. This unit was installed in July last and accounts for the addition $3,955.63 under the heading Machinery and Ice Stores in the Balance Sheet. I am pleased to say that it has given exceptional service and had it not have been installed we would have had no alternative but to close down when the! Canton Municipal Electric Power Ad- ministration ceased to function in Oc-i tober last. Power is now being ob- tained from the Shameen Municipal Plant.

COATED TONGUE

Are you one of the people who wake- up in the morning with these unpleasant symptoms? They are a sign that the liver is not functioning properly and that the digestive system is out of order too.

To put this trouble right is usually a simple matter, treated in the right way -the Pinkettes way. For Pinkettes gently yet speedily stimulate the liver, activate the intestinal tract, accelerate digestion, thus setting the digestive processes into healthy motion again. If feeling constipated, bilious, liverish, gloomy to-day, try a little dose of Pinkettes to-night, and seo how much better and brighter you will feel to- morrow morning. Of all chemists
