been

Much dissatisfaction has - caused in Ladies' hockey circles by the postponements of Caer Clark Cup and Brawn Cup hockey matches last Saturday (December 17) and next Saturday, December 24.

These wholesale postponements will only prolong the Ladies' season until the late in March.

"REVIEWER'S" SPORTS COMMENTARY

When The All Blacks Meet Springboks In 1940

The formal invitation issued to the All Blacks to tour South Africa in 1940 and take on the Rugby Union springboks ratifies the preliminary draft programme for international football.

Though some of the recent greatest Springboks, notably Phillip Mel and Boy Louw, have withdrawn from the hubbub of the playing field, South Africa will muster a team better bal- anced, perhaps, than any seen since the two early Springbok teams toured Great Britain.

They have reovered earlier brilliancy It had been lost among the backs, to some extent during the reign of Benny Osler as five-eighth, mainly through his penchant of "finding the line."

New Zealand has still another season to develop more star players and per- fect the Test XV so that it will meet the Springboks with a 50-50 chance of successs. They will concentrate on again drawing level in 1940 with their great rivals.

Australian School Crew For Henley?

Will an

asked

Australian Public School crew be seen at Royal Henley? Stewards of Henley have Major Syd. Middleton (London re- presentative of the Australian Rowing Council) whether more than one Aus- tralian crew could enter for the Cen-. tenary Henley regatta next July.

Middleton has expressed the opinion that a crew from one of the Australian Public Schools would be welcome. Difficulty is that it night not be eligible to compete in the Ladies' Challenge Cup which is the race for schools, and probably would have to go for the Thames Challenge Cup, which is an open event.
