Dreadful light and dull depres- sing weather did not make for sparkling cricket last Saturday but there were some bright spots.

At the Valley, Craigengower and Civil Service managed some high scoring, and it was sufficiently close at the end to make matters fairly

interesting.

Congratulations to A. R. H. Esmail on his century-the first he has ever made to my recollection. I hear it was quite a good effort. Esmail completely dominated the scoring, next highest contributor being Rapley with 19. Taking full advantage of bowling described as

amount of runs.

At King's Park Club de Recreio made a valiant effort to get the 118 runs set them by H, K. C. C. Juniors and only fell short by 5 runs.

Feature of this match was the brilliant wicket-keeping of G. S. Lovett who had three stumpings and did not concede an extra.

For H.K.C.C., S. J. Cooke and C. W. E. Bishop both got twenties, E. A. R. Alves, taking four of their wickets for 37 runs.

Thanks to useful innings by A. E. Noronha, A, V. Gosano, F. H. Car- valho and M. Mendonca, Recreio got go-close but not quite close enough and H.K.C.C. emerged deserving win- ners.

Special mention must be made,.. however, of G. A: White, who, on one of his rare appearances, went in No. 10, made a more than use- At Chater Road, Recreio per- ful 11 not out, and later, took a formed very creditably against

In bad light with a thick haze and accurate bowling by Robbie Lee and Lloyd, I.R.C. never looked like getting the runs but 52 for 6, handicaps notwithstanding, is not the type of score one expects from a team which has been joint cham- pions for two years having regard to the amount of time they had to

bat.

Bond, with his left-handers, got some wickets for H.K.C.C. at last, while L. A. R. Duncan, who has not played very much in recent years, having been in Foochow, took 2 for 1.

Promising Youth

This total was far too good for the Civil Servants and had not veteran P. D. Crawley and R. Paige been associated in a fine stand near the end, there is little doubt Police would have won.

I am told that Pope, in tak- ing 6 for 25, bowled magni- ficiently and was almost un- playable.
