TALKS IN LONDON

After stating in reply to a Com- mons question that while no formal discussions with representatives of the German Government had taken place on trade matters since the An- glo-German payments amendment was signed on July 1 Mr. Oliver Stanley was asked if udvantage would be taken of the visit of Dr. Schacht to discuss these questions with him.

He replied: "That is for another department to answer. We do take the opportunity of having in- formal talks as and when possible, with the hope that they will de- velop into more formal negotiations 'later.

"I feel that the value of these formal talks would be diminished if all subjects discussed were made public. No formal negotiations are in contemplation when Dr. Schacht visits London.”—British Wireless.
