In the Commons the Secretary for the Dominions said the object of the recent visit of the South African Defence Minister was to discuss 'with the appropriate authorities of the British Gov- ernment certain technical aspects of the de- fence problem of South Africa.
Those discussions having taken place and the ques- tions involved having been settled, Mr. Pirow had left for a visit to the Continent, but would return to the United Kingdom for a short time before sailing for South Africa.
The statement gave rise to several supplementaries.

NIGERIA CHIEFS OPPOSE ANY TRANSFER HINT
Abeokuta (Nigeria), To-day. A resolution declaring against any transfer of Nigeria to Ger- many was passed by a mass meeting here yesterday of chiefs and citizenc under the chairman- ship of Alake Abeokuta, the rul- ing chief of Egbaland.
