STARTLING CLAIMS OF IMMINENT CHINESE ATTACK ON CANTON: BOMB RAID

Chungking, To-day. Having shattered the Japanese outer defences, Chinese forces are closing in on Canton and are ready to storm the city itself, according to mili- tary advices.

The main body of the Japanese troops, falling back from various directions, is reported to have re- treated into the city.
