Madam -- Your
MANNERS!
The way a girl held her knife and fork and behaved attable used to be a sure reply to the question: "Is she a Indy?”.
But it's not like that these days. There's many a girl who thinks highly of herself, yet who lets herself down when she eats and drinks. There's many a girl who thinks that the importance of dainty meal- time behaviour is a thing of the past. She's wrong. If there's one thing that is never out of date-that thing is the charm that surrounds the well-mannered girl.

If you live alone or are such a solitary that you never sit down to a meal table with anyone else but yourself then stick out your el- bows like this as much as you want.
But rubbing elbows with your mealtime neighbour is a painful and annoying habit for your neigh- bour and bad manners anyway.
It may help you to carve your way through the first course--but it won't help you to carve your way into other people's good books.

Elbows out means that you're an ungainly, unpleasant and better avoided mealtime companion.
Elbows in is a habit easy to ac- quire if you practise, and means that you're a person who knows that, these so-called little things matter.

Trying facetiously to ruffle any one's disposition, or arouse a feeling of apprehension will be a dangerous pastime this day. Nerves are apt to be tense and tempers quick, with tongues capable of uttering. stinging words. In financial matters be care- ful not to overestimate anyone's friendship. Courage, in the heat of some excitement, might inspire some one to risk his life to save yours. The spirit of thriftiness, and fear of a pecuniary loss might cause the selfsame person to refuse a helping hand in time of desperate need: You will discover there is always more than one way to accomplish a desir- ed end. Married and engaged coup- les, as well as those seriously plan- ning a future together, will have to give each other the fullest amount of cooperation possible, to "make this day successful.
