CHAMBERLAIN REPLY TO ATTLEE DEMAND FOR CALLING OF PARLIAMENT
London, To-day. "Parliament will, of course, have the opportunity of confirming or rejecting any Government pro- posals arising from the present international situation," declares Mr. Neville Chamberlain in reply to the letter from Mr. Attlee, opposi- tion leader, demanding that the House be sum- moned without delay.
"At the moment," continues Mr. Chamberlain, "I am engaged in difficult and delicate negotia- tions with the object of finding a peaceful solu- tion of the problem, which if not handled with the utmost care, may have serious conse- quences to this country.
"To summon Parliament now, , and to take part in debates while these negotiations are still in progress, would make my task im possible, but the necessary steps| will be taken to summon a spe- cial meeting as soon as matters have proceeded far enough to en- able me to make a full state- ment."
