TALK WITH SIR R. CRAIGIE

Tokyo, To-day.

The conference between the British Ambassador to Japan, Sir Robert Craigie, and the Japanese Foreign Minister, General Ugaki, is declared by the "Japan Times" yesterday to have been of unusual importance since it was for the pur- pose of clearing the grounds for negotiations with the end in view of "restoring the tradi- tional friendship" between the two countries. The paper, which is often inspired directly from the Foreign Ministry, states that British concern over the fate of British property in the war zone is groundless because this will all be re- turned to the owners when peace has been re- stored.
