ITALIAN ARMY AND AIR FORCE CHIEFS CONFER WITH SIGNOR MUSSOLINI
Rome, To-day.
A meeting of the Chiefs of the General Staffs of the Army and Air Force, presided over by Il Duce, and at which the Finance Minister was also present, has been officially revealed.
It is understood that apart from new equipment, the main purpose of the meeting, from which the Navy was excluded, was financial co- ordination in the new armaments programme.
There have been no details of this new programme given in the official communique, which merely states that the object is to increase the efficiency of Italian armed forces.
The new measure is apparently aimed at strengthening the Italian power of attack and some light is thrown on the question by editorial comments in the "Tribuna" which state:
