LAST SATURDAY'S MANY UPSETS

CIVIL SERVICE AND TAIKOO WERE MAINLY RESPONSIBLE

RECREIO ALMOST CERTAIN OF SENIOR TITLE

(By “SKIP")

The honours in last Saturday's Bowls League-programme went to the Civil Service Cricket Club for their great, if narrow, win against Craigenġower. In a game which was in many ways similiar to their match earlier in the season, in which Craigengower pulled up nearly two dozen shots to snatch a close victory, the Civil Ser- vants playing at home this time were able to hold on and won out by a single shot.

Their visitors were actually 17 to the bad on the 10th head, and strove valiantly to make up the deficit. It was left to Taikoo to provide the next biggest, surprise in the Second Division, as they were able to overcome the strong Club de Recreio team at Quarry Bay. The Civil Servants also upset things a little by beating the Football Club "B" team, away, whilst Kowloon Cricket Club juniors achieved a smart performance in securing the better of the Elec- tricians at Ming Yuen.

The defeat of Craigengower] meant much to Club de Recreio who, with only three more mat- ches to play, are 4 points ahead of their nearest rivals, the Kow- loon Cricket Club, surprise team of the year.

Although it is perhaps just a shade too early to acclaim Recreio as Cham- pions again, nothing but a miracle

B. Basto had a margin of 4 shots against D. Munro but in his anxiety to secure a big count on the last head, he gave Munro an opportunity to bump up for shot, a wood which should have been guarded. Basto was actually counting a nap hand when the Taikoo player saved the big tally.
