HOLIDAYS WITH PAY LOCAL SHARE

London, To-day.

In moving the second reading] of the Holidays With Pay Bill, the Minister of Labour, Mr. Ernest Brown, said the measure gave permission and power certain wage fixing authorities to fix holidays with pay.

to

The bill affected potentially about 2,000,000 workers and as a result_holidays with pay would be- come legal reality.

The Amulree Committee, he add- ed, estimated that up to the end of 1936 holidays with pay were as- sured to about 7,750,000 workpeople —a proportion of forty per cent. of |18,500,000 workpeople. He had al- ready set up a departmental com- mittee to co-ordinate industrial, educational, transport and lod gings, and other holiday arrange- ments. Considerable progress had been made.

Educational authorities were en- deavouring to arrange school holi- ¡ days, elementary and secondary, so as to fit in with industrial · holi- days.

In the main, this would be a lo- cal problem.

The Board of Education had also been in consultation with universi- ties and examining boards and the Board had been impressed with the readiness of all concerned to help in dealing with the problem.-Bri tish Wireless.
