Tokyo, To-day. Widespread havoc, including the inundation of more than 100,000 houses in the Tokyo district and the disruption of: railways and telephones, in various parts of the country, has been caused by the sever- est rainfall experienced in 20 years.

A storm is heading for Tokyo and is expected to strike before morning.

Many roads have been ren- dered impassable while a num- ber of bridges, including 11 in the Tokyo district have been washed away.

Although the material dam- age has been enormous, loss of life has been comparatively small. A landslide demolished a school house in Yokosuka, kill- ing two children.

All schools in the Tokyo̟, dis- trict were closed at noon, while thousands of people who were unable to reach their homes outside Tokyo, were forced to spend the night in the capital. --Reuter.
