SHARP BREAK IN FRENCH FRANC FOLLOWS BIG INTERNAL LOAN RUMOURS
London, To-day. The French franc broke sharply yesterday after-.
noon following a fresh crop of rumours regard- ing the imminence of a large internal loan. The spot rate went out to 163.00 to the pound sterl- ing, which is the lowest for nearly a month, while discounts on francs for forward delivery also displayed weakness.
Owing to the absence of any official resistance to the franc's. downward trend, many well-inform- ed persons are wondering whether the move was engineered.

Success of a large-internal loan under the existing state of the French capital market, is extremely doubtful, but the prospects would be enhanced were the franc to be allowed to depreciate to a level at which it would prove sufficiently at- tractive to induce large-scale re patriation.
