DECLARATION ON ANSCHLUSS Seventy-Five-Minute Audience With Pope.

In a statement to "Osservatore Romano" before leaving for Vienna, Cardinal Innitzer, who had a 75-minute audience with the Pope, declared that the declaration of the Austrian bishops should not be interpreted as approving any- thing incompatible with the liberty of the Church or as an obligation of conscience on Catholics by the state, or the Nazi Party. Particularly, the Bishops demanded that all regu- lations relating to schools and bringing up youth be in accordance with the natural rights of parents and the principles of the Catholic Church.

Propaganda against religion and the Church must be prohibited.
