MARRIAGE ALLOWANCE CUT

London, To-day.

In reply to questions in the House of Commons re- garding the effects of the proposed marriage allowances scheme, the First Lord of the Ad- miralty, Mr. A. Duff Cooper, said that orders would be issued to the Fleet on April 8 to pro-. vide an increase in the rate of marriage allow- ance for naval officers to be payable in certain instances to ensure that no married officer will suffer.

A White Paper will be issued as as soon as possible.

Every married officer afloat will be better off under the scheme than before, and no married officer ashore or afloat will be worse off.

The only ones would be worse off were bachelors, and to their credit, not a single complaint had come from them-Reuter.
