BENNY LYNCH BATTERS FRENCHMAN
WORLD FLYWEIGHT HOLDER TOO GOOD FOR BATTAILLE
BUT LOSER GIVES VERY PLUCKY DISPLAY
JIMMY WALSH DEFEATED
London, December 14. BENNY LYNCH, the world's flyweight champion, in his first fight since he successfully defended his title against Peter Kane, smashed Georges Bat- taille, the bantamweight champion of France, to defeat in eight rounds at Leicester last night.
LYNCH, WHO LOOKED HEAVIER THAN WHEN HE FOUGHT KANE, WAS ON TOP THROUGHOUT THE FIGHT. HE PUT BATTAILLE DOWN FOR TWO COUNTS JUST BEFORE THE REFEREE, MR. JACK HART, STEPPED BETWEEN THE MEN TO SAVE BATTAILLE FROM FURTHER PUNISHMENT, AND AWARDED THE FIGHT TO LYNCH.-
The referee's action brought boos from a section of the large crowd, who had cheered the gallant Frenchman in his uphill battle, but to those near the ring it seemed a praiseworthy decision, for Battaille was woefully behind on points and had taken quite enough punishment.
