PREMIER'S

INVITATION

British Desire For Italo-German Friendship

UNDERSTANDING BY INFORMATIVE DELIBERATIONS

London, To-day.

Mr. Chamberlain dealt with the international situation in Europe, in the course of his Guildhall speech.

Speaking of Spain, he said that Britain, to- gether with France, had been continuing her en- deavours to make non-intervention effective.

Britain would continue to do her utmost to pre- vent the Spanish conflict from spreading beyond the frontiers of Spain.

As regards Britain's relations. with Germany and Italy, the two great Powers now closely associat- ed in what is known as the Berlin- Rome axis, Mr. Chamberlain de- clared that it was the sincere desire of his Government to these relations grounded on a solid basis of mutual friendship and an derstanding, a matter which in his opinion need not be affected by differences in methods of handling internal affairs.
