A very fast, but robust game of water-polo was witnessed in the V.R.C. pool yesterday, when a V.R.C. team beat an Army “A” team by four clear goals after leading at the e interval by goals to nil. The outstanding feature of the encounter was the splendid home defence, in which Kerr and Delgado were outstand- ing, while Marcal was thorn in the Army attack.

port swimming meeting will be held in Shanghai on August 26, 27 and 28.
The Tientsin Amateur Swim- ming Association had intimated that they are unable to send a team owing to unforseen circum- stances, while no reply has yet been "received from the Kobe Swimming Club, so it very mach looks as if the Interport will be between Shanghai and Hong Kong. A- meeting of local Club represen- tatives has been called for next Monday at the V.R.C. at 6 pm..

The defeat of Lancashire by Middlesex was a feature of the County Cricket matches which con- cluded yesterday. The latter won a low-scoring. game by eight wickets. Essex also provided rather a surprise at Colchester, where they beat Sussex on the first innings, thanks chiefly to an innings of 119 not out by T. N. Pearce.
New Zealand, allthough they managed to force a draw against Yorkshire, were within an ace of defeat and at the close of play, their last two men were batting with their total considerably in
