ACHILLES ATHLETIC TRIUMPH
KINNAIRD TROPITY
RETAINED
THREE NEW RECORDS
(By BEVIL RUDD)
London, May 31. The Achilles Club easily - wan the Kinnaird Trophy st÷1 White City, scoring 79 pointes or 10 points more than the combin- ed total of the next three clubs, Blackheath, LAC... andy Milo- carians..
But if the club match soon be-. came a foregone conclusion, there was plenty of individual rivalry in each of the 10 events, and three records for this meet- ing were set up..
Alan. Pennington (Achilles) beat F. F. Wolff's 22.3sec. for the 220 yards by a tenth of a second; Ali Irfan (Achilles) added bin to R. L Howland's weight, record of 45ft (Howland himself was second, less than 2in short of his old distance); and last and best of all-W. E. N. Breach (Reading), with his first long jump, got to within a quarter of an inch of 24ft and beat H. M Abrahams” “Kinnaird” record of 1924 by 2in.
BRILLIANT LAST LAPE
If Breach's jumping was the best athletic achievement of the day, it was the mile that most captured the imagination of the crowd and gave more satisfaction than any other event.

Allberry (L. A. C.), C. A. J. Emery (Achilles) and A. C. Franks (L. A. C.) took the lead in turn and quick changes of position - occurred in their wake, as the group of better known.: runners manoeuvred for their final effort.

B. C. Eeles (Southgate), consi- dered to be Wooderson's most dan- gerous, rival, raced into the lead at the bell, but the wise little British champion accelerated with UITGE flurried pace and was soon securely in front. The line of runners be- hind him stretched out like worn elastic. Only Frank Close (Surrey) could respond to this peremptory speeding up. :
AN EXTRA BUEST. He stuck gamely behind Wooder- son, but the latter once again was nursing an extra turn of speed for the finishing straight, and when he applied it the race was over. The time, 4min 17.2gec. has only once
