QUESTIONED AT S.P.C. MEETING
The question of the restric- tion of hawkers' licences again came before the Executive Com- mittee of the Society for the Pro- tection of Children at its month- ly meeting, held last evening under the chairmanship of Mr. J. T. Prior.
The matter was raised by the Hon. Sir Henry Pollock, who, dur- ing consideration of the monthly returns, enquired whether any difficulty was now being ex perienced in obtaining licences.

One of the Branch Secretaries re- plied in the affirmative, adding that ap- plications made for hawkers' and news- paper sellers' licences were frequently refused. It was apparently the policy of the Urban Council gradually to res- trict the number of licences and finally to eliminate them altogether.
It was pointed out, during discus- sion, that the Urban Council was par- ticularly concerned with eliminating of food hawkers' licences, by reason the danger to public health caused by the sale of food in dusty streets.
FIXED LIMITS Another speaker pointed out that, so far as newspaper sellers' licences were concerned, there was a fixed limit to the numbers.
