CHINA v. ENGLAND AT MELBURY
LO, HO & MISS HOAHING BEATEN IN SINGLES
H. W. AUSTIN'S LAPSE COSTS HIM SET
(By A. WALLIS MYERS)
London, April 14. HERE was a match in miniature between China THERE
and England at the Melbury meeting yester- day. On the visiting side were K. C. H. Lo, G. Ho, and little Miss Hoahing; on the home side, H. W. Austin, R. J. Ritchie, and Miss Stammers.
By the fortune of the draw these players were in opposition in the singles, and though Miss Hoahing proved to be no match for

Miss Allen alleged that Doyle had an uncontrollable temper, had struck her, and had threatened her with
shotgun. The judge cut Miss Allen's evidence short, re- marking that she had "told enough for five divorces." He refused her application for £20 a month ali- · mony, pointing out that she had a good job and was able to support herself.
England's joint No. 1, Lo and Ho both captured sets from Austin GT. BRITAIN'S
and Ritchie respectively.
DAVIS CUP
It must be confessed that Austin was almost Lo's confederate PROBABLES in the set which the Englishman lost. That is to say, he helped the Chinese to win it by countless timing errors and by serving so many double faults that the observer lost count.
A neat exponent, with a Satoh- like capacity for accelerating his pace after a crop of weak re- turns, the Chinese gathered six of the first eight games but in each he was presented with at least two points by Autsin's lack of control.
AUSTIN RECOVERS TOUCH
The match was over when Austin FIRST CLASS
found his touch and, by a turn of the wrist, could conduct. Lo into a re- gion of the court where his resources were inadequate. In the last set, instead of serving doubles, Austin provided aces
Of quite a different character was Ho's contest with Ritchie. In- cisive volleying gave Ritchie an un- troubled first set and he looked to be winning the second when, after being behind, he led 6-5, having forced the pace judiciously.

LONDON'S NEW TRACK
(By A. G. THROSSELL)
London, April 16. The R.A.C. Tourist Trophy car race will be held in England this year for the first time in its long history. No suitable course has been found in Ulster, and yester- day Sir Montagu Butler, Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Man, announced in the Tyn- wald Court that it could not be held on the island.
The only alternatives now left to the B.A.C. are the three road courses on private land in Eng- land Donington, near Derby, the new Brooklands road-racing circuit; and that at the Crystal Palace. The two last-named will be opened officially next week.
The road racing circuit at the Crystal Palace is two miles long and has a minimum width of 30ft. Its construction has cost £15,000,
