HOW ONE HOLES

OUT

"Spotlight” golf, a mechanical device, will enable you to play a round of golf on the St. Andrews course without the trouble going to Scotland to get it. It is a very remarkable and ingen- ious invention.

of

It must in no sense be con- founded with miniature golf which had a brief reign several years back. It has the additional advantage that inasmuch as you can play the whole course you do not shift from the first teë.

The player hits the ball at a disc on a net, just in front of him. The machine registers the exact posi- tion of the ball on a course map, and also shows the distance the

! ball has been hit. This is shown in a

which glass-faced cabinet, contains an exact replica, drawn to scale, of each hole on St. Andrews

course.

So, without having to go through the drudgery of a five miles' walk, the player stands still, and, after being shown the distance he has gone with this or that shot, then takes out the club necessary reach the green.

Athletes who come to show things are not always popular, but this American, who looks like a bronze statue when he is poised for a dive, gets a big hand everywhere.

He is terrific at every phase of diving. He can perform top-board dives which no other man will at- tempt. The efforts cost him many hours of tedious practice, and his daily schedule of eat-and-sleep is of the Spartan kind.
