GOOD STANDARD IN FIELD EVENTS

No outstanding feat was accom- plished by athletes of St. Joseph's College at their 21st annual ath- letic meeting, held at Caroline Hill yesterday afternoon.

At the conclusion of the events, Mr. J. Ralston, Inspector of Eng- lish Schools, distributed the prizes to the successful competitors.

The following were the results of the events:

The three major figures in the present controversy over the world heavyweight boxing championship bout are seen above. Jimmy Johnston, the Madison Square Garden promoter (left), was compelled to cancel all arrangements for a world title bout between Max Schmeling of Ger many, the logical contender following his knock-out victory over Joe Louis, and James J. Braddock, because of the anti-Nazi feeling in the United States. Mike Jacobs, the Twentieth Century Club promoter (right), has now arranged for a title fight between Braddock and Joe Louis at Soldiers' Field, Chicago, while Joe, Jacobs, Schmeling's manager (centre), is anxious to stage a championship bout in Berlin.
