The £1,120,000 scheme for turn- ing Laggston Harbour, Portsmouth, into a base for the new Imperial flying-boats, has been accepted by the Portsmouth City Council.

A barrage will be built with the object of landlocking the harbour. at Langston, making it a huge lake.

The Air Ministry is prepared to contribute £568,000 towards the sum required, and will also guaran- tee an income of at least £30,000 a year for fifteen years.

The present airport will be sold after deducting seventy-five acres for playing fields.

Supporters of the scheme claim that it will make Portsmouth the first air base as well as the first naval base in the world.-Reuter.

Twice yesterday did Valencia suffer an air at- tack with the raiders using incendiary bombs. The first raid was carried out shortly before dawn and the second later in the day.

Incendiary bombs were dropped mummamanEY by the rebel planes both on the town and in the harbour sector, but little damage is reported.

At night all lights were put out for fear of further air raids.

All able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 45 are now required to carry a certificate when attend- ing places of amusement, indicating that they are doing defence work of some kind.

Lack of this certificate will mean imprisonment for thirty days, the their own prisoners to provide food.
