WHO WILL BE NEXT AMBASSADOR IN BERLIN?

SIR ALEXANDER

CADOGAN

OR SIR MILES LAMPSON?

Paris, To-day. The appointment of Sir Eric|| Phipps as British Ambassador in Paris is extremely significant under the circumstances NOW prevailing, says the "Petit Journal

Sir Eric, at present Ambassador 'n Berlin, is to succeed Sir George Clark, for many years holder of the post of Ambassador in Paris.

In pointing out the significance of the transfer the paper states that Franco-British co-operation, "which is such an important factor in the maintenance and organisation of European peace, has been much closer during Sir George's tenure of the Faris post

Sir Alexander Cadogan, whose name is linked with that of Sir Miles Lampson as possible suc- cessor to Sir Eric Phipps in the Berlin Embassy. Both have been Britain's diplomatic represents- tives in China.

In London it appears to be still uncertain who will succeed Sir Eric. in Berlin

The paper believes that Sir Alex- ander Cadogan is likely to be select- ed, since matters connected with the carrying out of the recently concluded Anglo-Egyptian Treaty may make Sir Miles Lampson's con- tinued presence in Cairo necessary.
