DRAMA
Shanghai, To-day.
A tense situation prevails in Sianfu, where fighting has occurred between two sections of the rebel forces, the extremists closing the city gates and mounting machine- guns on the walls.
The officer. commanding Chang Hsueh-liang's former troops, Gen- eral Wang I-chen, who led the mo- derate faction, was assassinated by the extremists who objected to the terms of the peace settlement with the Government.
General Wang had refused cancel the orders for withdrawal of the rebels under the terms of the settlement
Although the recalcitrant ele- ments are reported to have been pacified, the forty-eight hours of confusion is felt to be not yet over.
At present the general situation in Shensi appears to have împrov- ed, as the majority of the rebels have withdrawn from eastern Shen- si as far as Lántung, a few miles to the north-east of Sianfu
