the following splendid record:-

It is understwod that cricket iel not very enthusiastically played by the troops, but the officers boast several fine exponents of the game.
All Hong Kong sports en thusiasts will look forward withi eagerness to the new regiment's debut appearance in the many sportin fields open to them in thel -Colony,

THIS YEAR! _
LITTLE TIME FOR PRACTICE
(By “REFEREE"}
Probably the biggest sport- ing event of the year in the Co lony is the Interport Football contest between Hong Kong and Shanghai, which will take place this year on February 11, on the Royal Naval Recreation Club ground. Causeway Bay, for the first time in the history of the series, having hitherto been held on the Club ground, Happy Valley.
Shanghai set a very fine ex- ample by selecting 16 players at Jan early date, presumably with a view- to holding several practice matches before their arrival in the Colony, bearing in mind that their last team to visit these shores. who were selected a few days prior to sailing from Shanghai, were humiliated by 7 goals to 1
The Hong Kong Football As- sociation have, for some reason quite unknown to followers of the game always been very lack- adaisical in their selection of the Colony team and with barely a month at their disposal, have not yet made a move in the right direction.
NEW IDEAS WANTED
They are holding an Interport trial on Sunday, January 31, eleven days before the actual Interport match, and a full League pro- the gramne will be decided on following week-end in which most of the Interporters will be taking part. It really is about time the Association reorganised their ideas and got down to brass tacks. It is all very well to say, "There's tons of time and, besides, chaps know each other's play so well that practices make very little difference," and that is just

I have heard at the last two
Interports-players complain of their lack of understanding with their colleagues, and as a result took very nearly half the game to adapt themselves to the prevailing conditions.
The outstanding feature of the season's "big" match fixtures is that the majority of representa- tive encounters do not get into their stride until after the Inter- port match itself!

LOOKING BACK TEN YEARS JAPANESE SHOW ALL-ROUND IMPROVEMENT
A. BAND, one of the finest hockey players in the
A. Colony during his day, told me after the Hong Kong v Waseda match on Sunday that the Japanese had made rapid progress and had improved their game all round.
Dand played for the Club against Waseda some 10 years ago, when the local side won by 3 goals to 2, the same score as that on Sunday, when the Japanese visitors met the cream of the Colony's talent.
Dland, however, said that the visitors would have to devote more time to seeking understanding and combination.
