154 RUNS ADDED IN

SUFFIAD PLAYS GOOD INNINGS

(By "L. B. W.")

LAST week's cricket honours go to K. M. Baxter, the young

Kowloon Cricket Club all-rounder, whose 5 for 73, follow- ed by a brilliant innings for 97 runs, was the chief cause of the defeat of the junior champions, the LRC at the hands of the

K.C.C. by 9 wickets at Sookumpoo on Saturday. Mention too,

must be made of W. Mulcahy, who opened the K.C.C. innings with Baxter, with whom he was associated in a first wicket

partnership which realised 154 runs, scored in 50 minutes!

The Kowloon skipper. A. A. Dand, won the toss and put the home team in to bat. Things looked none too bright for the Indians when they lost their first four wickets for but 29; runs, but A. K. Suffiad (60) and F. M. el Arcaili (32) stayed together for 45 minutes during which time they added 90 runs to the score. A. E. Suffiad batted very well indeed, hitting nine boundaries, and at 3.50 pm, with the score at 174, the 1.R.C. skipper applied the closure.

Baxter bowled very well at the start, his first three wickets costing only 17 runs. but thereafter he was badly knocked about and, though he did take two further wickets, he was forced to concede another 56 runs in the process. W. L. McKenzie sent down some very good deliveries that were going away sharply, but he had no luck. The fielding of the K.C.C. was very poor, a couple of very easy catches being put down.
