CAMBRIDGE SOCCER

HOPES

GAME MORE POPULAR NOW THAN BEFORE FIVE OLD BLUES IN RESIDENCE.

(By The Twelfth Man")

London, September 8.

ASSOCIATION football is now much more popular at Cambridge than it was a few years ago. The standard of play is also better, and there is every reason to suppose that this season the Light Blues will have a most useful side.

The improvement in the standard of play is attributed to the fact that the field of selection now takes in players from secondary schools. At one time University teams were picked! almost exclusively from the seven or eight big Soccer schools.

Five old Blues will be in residence this year, and no one comes from the big Soccer schools. Actually no fewer than four- A. HL Woolcock will skipper the side are from Lancashire. from goal. He has a wide knowledge of the game and shows that enthusiasm for Soccer which should make him the perfect captain. D. E-A-Pettitt, the secretary, was chosen for the British Olympic team, but did not play.

HE Fixtures Committee of the Hong Kong Cricket League evening when the League fixtures for the season were arranged. Prior to this Capt L. J. Walch, representing the Army, told the meeting that with reference to the Andy's application for three teams in the junior division of the League, the Sookunpoa ground would be available for 12 Saturdays during the season.

Mr. F. Goodwin, who was in the chair, said he thought if the Army could use their ground for so many Saturdays, it would definitely help matters along and he proposed that the meeting approve the Army's application. This was second by Lt. Comdr. Barry and carried manimously.

The meeting then proceededy with the purpose for which it was called, and below are given the League fixtures for the sea-
