STAGE SET FOR CONTINUATION OF DIPLOMATIC NEGOTIATIONS

(From A Special Correspondent)

"Canton, To-day.

Following the return of the Central troops in Kwangtung to their own stations in the different provinces, General Chen Sheng was instructed to inspect them in the Yangtze Valley and the Northern-western provinces. Besides, the Generalissimo went to Nanchang himself from Canton by air on September 29 to en- sure that the Central troops were stationed at the proper places, according to his instructions.

After finishing his. inspection of the military authorities of the different provinces with regard to the scheme of national de- fence, General Chen went to Nanchang to make a report to the Generalissimo himself on Sunday last. Seeing that his directions have been properly carried out, the Generalissimo returned to Nanking by air yesterday and arrived there at 3 p.m. to busy himself with Central Government affairs, following his eight weeks' absence. The Generalissimo is now staying in the Central Military Academy with Madame Chiang.

It is stated in reliable circles that Mr. S. Kawagoe, the Jap- anese Ambassador to China, will pay a visit to the Generalissimo to-day or to-morrow, and then the Chang Chun-Kawagoe negotia- tions will be resumed through the proper diplomatic channels.

Gibraltar, To-day.

The intense activity reported in the naval yards at Cadiz is regarded as a prelude to a combined land, sex" and air attack- by the insurgents on Malaga, which, according to the insurgent |headquarters at Seville, will be launched either to-morrow or on Friday. The leading mits of the insurgent-feet are concentrai- ing at Cadiz, where anti-aircraft guns are being mounted on the cruisers Canarias, Republica and Almirante Cervera,

It is estimated that, during the past 12 days 16,000 troops, including Riffin sharpshooters, have been landed at Cadiz, Jerez and Algeciras from various Moroccan towns, in addition to troop movements by sea. Riffians are being brought over by air at the Irate of 70 an hour.

It-is-understood that 5,000 Moors, headed by Rizian sharp- shooters, will form the advance guard in the series of attacks on Malaga, while the rear guard will consist of Foreign Legion |troops and levies of Fascist volunteers. Reuter.
