In the middle of a clump of gorse bushes on Hounslow Heath one day last month rested discon-i solately an auto-giro. Surveying it rather patronisingly was a group of 100 or more experts from many countries who had been invited to witness this new "wonder."

Among them were officials from the War Office and the Admiralty, and various foreign attaches sta. tioned in Londen.

Mr. E. A Marsh, test pilot to the Cierva Auto-Gyro Co. climbed and through the gorse-bushes into the cockpit of the machine.

His engine was started, and after a few minutes he clutched in his two rotor blades, which start- ed whirling round at increasing speed above his head.
