COMMISSIONERS RETURN TO CANTON ·
IMPOSSIBLE TERMS DEMANDED. BY KWANGSI LEADERS
[From a Special Correspondent]
Canton, To-day.
It is definitely confirmed that after holding a peace confer- ence for two days in vain, the Nanking delegates came back to Canton by air yesterday afternoon, arriving in the city at 4.15 pm. They were accompanied by General Chan Wai-cheong, re- presentative of Generals Li Chung-jen and Pei Chung-hsi, to take the latters' reply to the Generalissimo.
It is stated in well-informed circles that the contents of the

It is learned that these terms can hardly be accepted by the Generalissimo, though both sides are desirous of peace.

REBELS COMMENCE ATTACK ON SAN SEBASTIAN AS IRÜN FALLS
Hendaye, To-day.
Irun is now a mass of smoking ruins. The last militiaman has crossed the frontier, and all resistance is finished. The in- surgents are still not in possession of the whole town. They are advancing prudently, fearing a trap, but for all practical purpose Irun is completely in the hands of the insurgents.
It is reported that a bombardment of the advanced positions of the Government forces at San Sebastian has begun. The re- bels are massing troops north-east of the town, which, it is re moured, may surrender to avoid street fighting.
Madrid: The Spanish Government has resigned, and Senor Largo Caballero, the Socialist leader, has formed a new Ministry, with Senor Alvarez de Varb as Foreign Minister.
Paris: The formation of the new Madrid Government indi- cates a stiffening in the resist- zace to the insurgents and pells a relentless fight to a finish, according to French di plomatic circles. Senor Cabal-
