HIS LAST YEAR IN DAVIS CUP!

W

Washington, July 25. TILMER ALLISON, the veteran Texan, who' captained America's unsuccessful Davis Cup team, said he was through with "serious" tennis and would not defend his national singles championship at Forest Hills in September.

"I doubt if I ever play in the nationals again," he said, “and international tennis definitely is out." Anyway, I'm not going to play singles; and, as far as serious tennis goes, it's all over for me," he asserted. "Tve been at it for 10 years now, and that's long enough.

"Tve been playing a long time. Now I've got to go to work. I've put it off as long as I could." The 31-year-old ace from Austin, Texas, said there was a possibility he might pair with John Van Ryn and play in the doubles championship this year. Van Ryn and Allison won a year ago and also held the crown in 1931.

Allison's failure to reach top) form this year brought on much speculation as to whether the |captain: would be left off the American team and his position: taken by Bryan Grant. Atlanta
