DISAPPOINTING FINAL

RECREIO PAIR DOGGED

BY BAD LUCK

SILVA USES WRONG BIAS

(By "Referee")

VERY poor bowling at the start, but improving towards the end, featured the Final of the Colony Lawn Bowls Pairs Championship, which was played before a handful of spectators on the Civil Service Cricket Club green last evening and which resulted in a 19-12 win for R. Duncan and S. Randle (Kowloon Bowling Green) over J. E. Noronha and F. X. M. da Silva (Club de Recreio).

It might have been due to the fact that the green was ren- dered exceptionally heavý by the torrential rain earlier in the week, but to begin with none of the players were “up,” and I am not exaggerating when I say that it took them easily the best part of 10 heads to find their length.

Once they did this, however, the standard of bowls improved considerably, and there were one or two ends which gave one the impression that one was watching a Final In this connec- tion the 13th and 14th beads were outstanding, and it was dur- ing these two ends that Noronha showed a glimpse of his true form, but he was dead out of luck, for, though he laid two beauti- ful woods in each one of those heads, Randle spoiled his shots on both occasions to steal the counter.

There was nothing excep- tionally outstanding in the first dozen heads, when the K.B.G.C. pair were always holding a slight advantage. The best the Recreio couple could do was to draw level at 9-all on the 12th head. but after that they were held well in check for six suc-i cessive ends,, during which time Randle and his

partner doubled their total.
