THERE were several interesting events in the local swimming work during the past week, the most important being, of course, the Cross-Harbour Swim organised by the Chinese Bathing Club at North Point last Sunday afternoon, and which was won by that splendid little performer from the Chinese Civil Servants' Club, Mak Wai-ming.

The day itself was one of the most miserable I have experi- enced for harbour swims, although the sea was by no means choppy. Where the swimmers were handicapped, however, was in crossing the treacherous belt of current running two or three hundred yards from the finishing line, and several of the swim- mers were carried well below the Taikoo Sugar Refinery. Magnus and W. Stoker, the European "Y" entrants, found them- selves opposite the Asama Maru, when they gave up a losing battle.
