"B" DIVISION LEAGUE TENNIS PROSPECTS CRAIGENGOWER MAKE STRONG BID

C.R.C. AGAIN HAVE GOOD MATERIAL (By Saladin ")

ALTHOUGH the League Lawn Tennis season

starts next Monday, many of the Clubs have not definitely selected their representatives for the "B" Division. South China Athletic Associa- tion, who won the shield last year and who are this year competing in the "A" Division, are not defending their title, so there is a certain amount In of speculation as to who will succeed them. all 10 teams have entered, two of which are from the Chinese Recreation Club.

The stronger of the two Chinese Recreation Club teams is captained by Lee Yu Wing, who has had considerable experience. in the League. He first played for South China several years ago, but recently turned out regularly for the C.R.C. He will have! several good players to draw upon, including Iu Tak-lam. Hon

In almost every case a club plays home and away matches on alternative Saturdays which is as it should be. Last year, and CHAMPIONS

years previously, we had some teams playing as many as four matches in succession at home with a similar number away in! second half of the programme, an arrangement which was neither convenient nor equitable.

Furthermore, the Association are to be commended on their action in sending a circular to all clubs on the subject of foot faulting, which is so common in the local game. From general observation, I cannot say that there has been a very, great im-

provement to date, but perhaps when the players really get down

to it in the Open competitions they will realise that the Asso-

ciation means business.

I hope that the Association to all clubs or to the various [will indicate immediately that Bowls Conveners asking for something is to be done about their co-operation in appointing it and not wait until the late umpires to all matches played rounds, when a law-abiding on their greens.
